WOODEN BOATS - RANIA KANARI In 1999 I collected the first pieces of wood, on a beach.
The rains that lasted throughout the whole winter, drifted these pieces into the sea at first and subsequently in the seashore. As a result there was a huge pile of timber, along the seashore. The first boat was constructed with a little piece of wood, about 20cm long, as a keel and an upright stick serving as a mast. A triangular piece of canvas glued to the edges with silicon, completed the whole “ creation”. Now I use larger pieces of wood that I find in a shipyard. These pieces are set in the place of the keel without adding many items. Ropes, clothes, glues and varnishes are the remaining materials that contribute to the outcome of these constructions - voyages. Now the wooden boats sail across the world. |
